suzumiya haruhi no yuuutsu

涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱

涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱 (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi)

A popular light novel series by Tanigawa Nagaru, with art by Itou Noiji, which was adapted into a 2006 anime by Kyoto Animation, along with a sequel in 2009, and its first feature film, Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu, in 2010.

Also adapted into a number of videos games, drama CDs, and four official manga series.

The first, with art by Mizuno Makoto, was considered a disservice and soon cancelled. The second, by Tsugano Gaku, has fared much better. The third is a spin-off based on Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu, called Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu, by Puyo. The fourth is a parody manga, Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuuutsu, also by Puyo, which saw a 2009 Original Net Animation adaptation by KyoAni.

Nyoro~n Churuya-san, by Eretto, is an unofficial doujinshi work, but was also given an ONA adaptation by KyoAni.

While mainly known as the Suzumiya Haruhi series, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu refers to the first novel of the series, but is used for many of the adaptations, including the anime and manga.
