spinosaurus
A large carnivorous theropod dinosaur, recognizable by its large sail and long narrow skull. Spinosaurus lived about 100 to 94 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous in what is now North Africa.
The type species, Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, was one of the largest theropod dinosaurs and possibly the largest land predator ever. A second species, Spinosaurus mirabilis, was named and described in 2026, distinguishable by a scimitar-shaped crest on the top of its skull.
