space habitat

A large habitation facility in space similar to a very large space station, but designed as a permanent settlement. Frequently seen in far-future sci-fi works.

Space colonies are commonly depicted in shapes such as massive cylinders or toruses (donuts).

Also known as a space habitat, space settlement, spacestead, space city, orbital habitat, orbital settlement, orbital colony, orbital stead, or orbital city.
