A simple device used for capturing wild animals. It consists of a noose or loop, typically made of wire, cable, or strong cord.

The noose is set along a path where an animal is expected to travel (like a game trail). When the animal passes through the loop, the noose tightens around its neck or a limb, holding it in place until the trapper arrives.
