Shinei Nouzen, nicknamed Shin, is the male main character from the light novel series 86 -EightySix-. Shin has black hair and red eyes. He frequently wears a battered white scarf around his neck to conceal the large scar on it.

Shin is an 86, one of the non-Alba race stripped of their human rights by the Republic of San Magnolia after the war with the Giadian Empire broke out and made to serve as human fodder for the Republic's war effort. At the start of the series he is 16-years-old and the commanding officer of the Spearhead Squadron of 86ers, having already served 4 years in the Republic's military. Officially he is ranked as Captain of Spearhead Squadron, though leadership in 86 units is based on whoever is deemed the most skilled by the rest of the unit. His Personal Name, a name granted to veteran 86ers as their permanent call sign, is Undertaker. His personal emblem for the mecha he pilots, a Juggernaut, is a headless skeleton holding a shovel, which is derived from his older brother's emblem which was a headless skeleton holding a sword.
