satan (mythology)
In Western religious mythology, Satan is the source of the world's evils. Originally one of God's angels, he rebelled and caused Adam and Eve to fall to sin. He is also known as Lucifer in certain religious traditions. In traditional Christian theology, Satan is also the ruler of Hell, tormenting unrepentant sinners for all eternity.
