puppet
A doll of cloth or wood, which can be operated by a puppeteer by means of strings and cable or by wearing it as a glove.
If it's controlled with puppet strings, it's a marionette. If it's worn like a glove, it's a hand puppet.
Some puppets have proper names like Shanghai Doll or Pinocchio.
