Sai (Default)
psylocke
An X-Men character with the powers of telepathy and telekinesis.
The first Psylocke was Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock, a British woman who was the twin sister of Brian Braddock, aka Captain Britain. When Betsy was captured by the Mandarin, she ended up switching bodies with a Japanese ninja mutant named Kwannon; Betsy continued to use her codename Psylocke in her new body over the next 29 years. Eventually both Betsy and Kwannon switched back to their original bodies, with Betsy ultimately becoming the new Captain Britain while Kwannon became the second Psylocke.
A third Psylocke was introduced in Marvel's 2021 Demon Days mini comic series set in a Marvel universe that merged with Japanese mythology. This version of Psylocke is named Sai, a wandering Samurai who hunts Yokai with her psionic powers. The Sai version of Psylocke would later appear in the video game Marvel Rivals. In addition, Sai's descendant, Kanon Sainouchi, would be given the Psylocke alias editorially in releases of the 2024 Ultimate X-Men comic series.
As a result of her confusing backstory, Psylocke is either portrayed as British, Japanese or British Asian in other media.
In film, she appears in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Apocalypse in the X-Men film series. In videogames, she appears in the Marvel vs. Capcom series and in Marvel Rivals.
