plastron (necklace)

A large necklace that hangs down from the neck to the chest and covers most of the area, usually made of precious gems or metals. It either consists of several rows of beads and gems, or metal plates on which gems were already fixed. It originated from Egypt’s usekh collar.

The name plastron, coming from the French language, meant “bib”.
