A novelty gag gift created by advertising executive Gary Dahl in 1975. It is a smooth stone packaged in a ventilated cardboard box with straw bedding, similar to a bed carrier. It became a craze on the year of its creation and became a popular stocking stuffer.

Pet rocks usually have googly eyes as eyes.
