pansy
A popular, decorative garden flower hybridized from Viola tricolor with other Viola species. Popular for use in flower beds.
Pansies come in practically every color of the rainbow. Their distinctive flowers have five petals: two overlapping upper petals, two side petals, and a single bottom petal. The petals are noticeably broader than those of other viola species. Pansies generally have a dark lobe pattern in the center that combines to give the impression of a butterfly.
Unlike Viola tricolor, pansy flowers are more neatly shaped and less elongated.
