pandoro
A traditional Italian sweet bread that originated in Verona. Its name is "golden bread" in Italian – pan d'oro – but compressed into a single word, and it is traditionally shaped like a frustum with an eight-pointed star section. It is often served dusted with vanilla-scented icing sugar to evoke the image of the snowy peaks of the Italian Alps during Christmas, where it is most popular along with New Year.
