omaha beach
One of five beach landing sectors designated for the amphibious assault component of D-Day during World War II, falling under the responsibility of primarily the United States Army.
Due to the geographical features of the beach that favors the defenders, such as its steep bluffs and narrow exits, the fierce Axis resistance, and the pre-landing bombardment failing to soften the defenses, it was most difficult beach to capture, with the Allies suffering the most casualties out of the five sectors.
