muli

Muli(幕篱) is a type of hat worn in ancient China. Initially, both muli and wimao were designed to shield against sand and wind. Later, they became hats worn by women while traveling to conceal their faces and prevent passersby from peeking.

The muli(幕篱) features a gauze veil fully attached to the brim of the hat, hanging down to shield the entire body; while the wimao has a net hanging around its four edges, draping down to the neck with additional decorations of pearls and jade often added to the net veil.
