lilith (mythology)

A being/goddess from various Middle Eastern mythologies that entered Abrahamitic mythology as Adam's wife before Eve, was cast out for disobedience towards her husband and became a demon attacking mothers and newborn children as revenge (i.e. became the personification of women dying in childbirth and children being either stillborn or dying shortly after birth).
