Hoshiiro GirlDrop is a 4koma manga series by bkub. The manga is a love comedy with Taira Daichi as its main protagonist as he struggles in his daily life with his childhood friend, Hoshifuri Sosogu, who currently lives with him and leads a double life as an idol. An anime adaptation was announced for the 2017 Fall Season but was pushed back to the 2018 Winter Season.
The series is in actuality part of an elaborate April Fools prank leading to the announcement of Pop Team Epic's Second Season in 2016. The 2018 anime adaptation of Pop Team Epic was both initially announced as a Hoshiiro GirlDrop adaptation, and also did fakeout openings based on it. The series would be continued with 2018's Hoshiiro GirlDrop Comic Anthology, and starting off Pop Team Epic's Eighth Season in 2023.
