The protagonist of Dragon Quest VIII. Ostensibly a random guardsman of Castle Trodain, he was thrusted in his quest by a great curse upon the castle by Dhoulmagus. For some reason, he was the only one to be completely unaffected by the curse...

For the sake of convenience, his default name is "Eight". In the English version, he is often referred to as "Guv", usually by Yangus.
