Hela is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, Hela first appeared in Journey into Mystery #102 (Mar. 1964) and is based on the goddess Hel from Norse Mythology.
The Asgardian goddess of death who serves as the ruler of Hel and Niflheim, she is usually depicted as an adversary to Thor. Hela was originally a Black Infinity Stone created by the then All-Father Bor Burison. They were suddenly attack by Thanos from the future and as the stone transformed into a baby girl, Thanos tried to sacrifice her in order to gain her powers but was ultimately defeated. She was later put in the care of Loki and Angrboda, raising her as their daughter. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she is the eldest daughter of Odin, making her Thor and Loki's older sister.
Hela made her live-action debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thor: Ragnarok, where she is portrayed by Catherine Blanchett. She has also appeared in various other Marvel-releated media, including TV shows and video games, including Marvel Future Fight and Marvel Rivals.
As an Asgardian woman and the Goddess of Death, Hela possesses several powers, including Asgardian Physiology (superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability), immortality, magic manipulation and control over life and death. Hela has long black hair, green eyes and usually wears a black and green bodysuit, a green cloak and a cowl with a spiked crown. Without her cloak, she becomes very weak and her powers are greatly reduced.
