heathcliff (wuthering heights)
Main protagonist of Wuthering Heights.
Once an orphaned boy adopted into the titular manor by the Earnshaw family. He would became close to Catherine, however, the ensuing abuse from her brother, Hindley Earnshaw and Edgar Linton, and ultimately, Catherine's marriage to Edgar led to Heathcliff fleeing the manor and one day swear revenge against them.
3 decades later, Heathcliff took over Wuthering Heights as its new master by exploiting Hindley's alcoholism and gambling addiction, convincing him to mortgage the manor to cover the incurred losses, Hindley would later succumb to his alcoholism.
