Once a kind man and a staunch ally to Marth, Hardin suddenly became a cruel despot upon taking the throne of Archanea, bringing him into conflict with his former allies. It is later revealed that, before the events of the game, Hardin had been corrupted by Gharnef using the Darksphere, upon learning that Nyna, the woman he married, did not reciprocate his feelings.
