gingham
A pattern of evenly sized checks created by the perpendicular intersection of horizontal and vertical stripes of equal width. Typically, the base color is white, making the colored stripes produce a repeating sequence of white checks, mid-toned (half-colored) checks, and fully colored checks. Commonly used in dresses and tablecloths. The Kobeya uniform is notable for incorporating a gingham apron.
Not to be confused with plaid, which uses varying stripe widths, nor with checkered, which uses solid squares of alternating colors without mid-toned checks.
