evening gown

A long flowing dress meant to be worn at high-end formal clothes affairs, such as galas, red carpet events, and black-tie affairs.

It ranges from mid-calf to full-length, but never above the knees. Evening gowns are often made of a luxury fabric such as chiffon, velvet, satin, or silk.

If the dress is knee-length or shorter and less fancy, consider cocktail dress instead. Evening gowns are formal wear, so in real life they tend not to be extremely revealing, although in fanart this is often ignored.
