El Chavo del Ocho ("The Kid From The Eight"), often shortened to simply El Chavo ("The Kid"), is a classic, very light hearted and very popular comedy sitcom that originally aired on Televisa network, in Mexico, from 1973 to 1980.
It also gained enormous popularity in Latin America as well as in Brazil (known there as "Chaves"), Spain and other countries in addition to the Spanish-speaking portion of the United States.
El Chavo was created by comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños, a.k.a. Chespirito , who also played the main character.
