dirndl
A traditional dress worn in Bavaria, Liechtenstein, Austria and South Tyrol, based on the historical costume of Alpine peasants. An iconic outfit for female beer servers during Oktoberfest.
A dirndl consists of a bodice and skirt or a pinafore dress, a low-cut blouse with puffy short sleeves, and a waist apron.
The position of the apron bow traditionally indicates a woman's marital status:
- Bow on left: Single
- Bow on right: Married
- Bow in middle: Virgin
- Bow in back: Widow (or waitress)
