dianthus
A genus of flowering plants in the carnation family Caryophyllaceae. They are the defining genus of the family, and the carnation is the defining species of the genus. Most species are commonly known as pinks, as nearly all species are some shade of pink. The flowers have five petals, typically with a frilled margin.
