crinoline

A cage-like structure under a dress used to support the shape of a dress, typically a hoop skirt. May sometimes also be worn overtop another garment such as a skirt or leotard. Crinolines are common in lolita fashion and aristocratic clothes. Petticoats serve a similar function.
