chengdu j-7

殲撃七型 歼-7 殲-7

The Chengdu J-7 (simplified Chinese: 歼-7; traditional Chinese: 殲-7) is license-built copy of the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 built by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group for the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) as a result of a technology transference arrangement in 1962. While externally it is identical to the MiG-21, the Soviet Union failed to transfer the complete documentation for the MiG-21, resulting in Chinese engineers having to reverse engineer the missing components from locally sourced parts. Thus, the internal hydraulics system, ejection system, fuel tanks, and canopy ejection system are unique to the J-7.

An export version is known as the F-7 Airguard. Armament includes 2 30mm cannon plus infrared air-to-air missiles, rockets, and bombs.
