cavalry

A type of mobile infantry unit, typically riding a horse (though other steed such as camel and elephant were also present) and assigned either as a scout, shock troopers, mobile archers, or flankers. They were present in various warfare around the world until World War I, when they were gradually replaced by motorized regiment.
