arcade
A place of wonder and merriment, based on various forms of coin-operated mechanical and electronic game machines. Most popular during the 1980's and 1990's as standalone establishments; now largely limited in the West to smaller areas within amusement parks. Still quite popular in Asia.
For the architectural feature by the same name, see arcade (architecture). For the large stationary video game machine that is often seen inside an arcade, use arcade cabinet.
