apu nahasapeemapetilon
One of the many characters of the American animated comedy sitcom The Simpsons.
He is an Indian immigrant proprietor who ran the Kwik-E-Mart, a popular convenience store in Springfield, and was known for his catchphrase, "Thank you, come again!"
He was voiced by Hank Azaria and first appeared in the episode "The Telltale Head". He was named in honor of the title character of The Apu Trilogy by Satyajit Ray.
The character has a mixed reaction by the South Asian Community where he is either viewed as a negative stereotype or a positive representation of South Asians. Due to increasing negative reception, Hank Azaria stepped down from voicing Apu in 2017 with future plans to have the character return but voiced by an actor of South Asian descent.
