aoqun

袄裙 ao_qun 襖裙

"Aoqun" is a type of Hanfu, where the upper garment is worn over the skirt, untucked, a style that emerged in China as early as the Spring and Autumn period and became more common during the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern dynasties, spreading to Japan during the Asuka period.

Some aoqun have a very long upper garment, where you can only see the skirt near the bottom of the outfit, but more common is aoqun where they are about equal in length. The styles differ greatly but still fall under the aoqun category if theres a skirt and an untucked upper garment.

Ruqun is the opposite; hanfu where the top is tucked into the skirt.

Examples

two ming dynasty aoquns
