The show is heavily criticized by many scientists and historians for promoting pseudoscience and false conspiracies for suggesting many aspects of human history was inspired or helped by aliens, with criticism that the show is suggesting humans are dumb and aren't capable doing many famous works and influence without aliens help. Furthermore, the show unintentionally racial suggest that the ancient Egyptians and Mayans didn't build their famous pyramids and temples respectively.

Famous in memes of a picture of Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, a frequent guest on the show, with the caption: "I'm not saying it was aliens ... but ...", usually use to mock conspiracy groups.
