2000s (style)
Anime or manga drawn in a style that was popular in the 2000s. This includes both works originally made in the 2000s in this style, and modern works drawn in a faux retro artstyle. This tag should not be used for images created in the 2000s that do not fall into this specific art style.
Common characteristics include:
- Bold, black lineart
- Cel-style "anime coloring" rendering
- Soft, pillowy shading with no defined form
- Freeform-shaped, "glossy" hair highlights with a low opacity
- "Moe" proportions (large eyes, small dot noses, low-placed mouths)
- Eyes without a defined pupil, instead being blurred with a darker shade or having a loose freeform shaped shadow
- Solid, round eye catchlights
- Common geometric eye shapes like jitome or tsurime
- Sharp, thick, upturned eyelashes
- Stereotypical anime expressions (>_<, :3, blush stickers and lines, exaggerated sweatdrops)

Shoujo art in this style is typically traditional media, particularly colored pencil or watercolor. Eyes are more rounded and detailed. Sparkles are frequently used.
Western artists with a fondness for this style tend to tag their artwork as animecore, a term coined in Tumblr aesthetic communities in the late 2010s to refer to the imagery and culture surrounding anime in the 2000s. It is also sometimes known as "moe style".
