Originally conceived by YandereDev on 4chan, the game involves a schoolgirl named Ayano Aishi (aka Yandere-chan) stalking and eliminating (through violent or non-violent means) anyone who she believes is trying to take the attention from her Senpai, a male student by the name of Taro Yamada, away from her.
The game is notorious and often memed on for its lengthy development cycle, primarily due to the fact that the developer YandereDev (Alex Mahan) often sidetracked his work to other things, such as streaming and vtubing, him focusing on arbitrary development tasks, such as model changes, writing lore, and adding additional features/systems, and several controversies surrounding it and Mahan himself. As such, the game is still under development as of date.
