    木魚

A wooden fish (JP: mokugyo) is a small, wooden percussion instrument somewhat resembling a bell. Its name is derived from its shape, the outline of which resembles a Japanese carp. It is often used during Buddhist recitation rituals.

The instrument is struck with a drumstick, and produces a distinctive, hollow, woody sound.
