Edit
An animated television spin-off of the 1984 comedy film Ghostbusters. The series ran on ABC between September 13, 1986 and October 5, 1991.
The series was called "Real Ghostbusters" to differentiate itself from another cartoon also called "Ghostbusters" by Filmation which also aired that same year, which itself was created as a result of Columbia Pictures buying the film rights of the name "Ghostbusters" from Filmation, who had the rights to a 1975 live action comedy TV show called "The Ghost Busters", in exchange for Filmation having rights to do a future cartoon based on the film, only for Columbia Pictures to give the cartoon rights to DIC Enterprises instead, leading to a scorned Filmation to create a cartoon based on the 1975 TV show and using the movie's popularity to get viewers to watch their cartoon before DIC's cartoon aired. It was followed in 1997 by the Extreme Ghostbusters series.
