A magical ring that appears in The Hobbit and becomes the central plot element in The Lord of the Rings.
Also known as Sauron's Ring, the Ruling Ring, Isildur's Bane, and the Precious (by Gollum).
When cold it has the appearance of a perfectly smooth, unadorned gold ring, but when hot it has a glowing inscription in the Black Speech written using Tengwar.
