A media franchise from Universal Studios about the mummified ancient Egyptian priest Imhotep who is accidentally resurrected, bringing with him a powerful curse, and the ensuing efforts of heroic archaeologists to stop him.
Started as part of the Universal Monsters line-up, with the first movie in 1932. The first non-literary Universal Monster, to be followed up by the Wolf Man, and part of the Big Four, alongside Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man. Would be rebooted during the Hammer Era.
Remembered in the current day thanks to the Stephen Sommers trilogy, with the first movie in 1999 starring Brendan Fraiser as Rick O'Connell, Rachel Weisz as Evelyn Carnahan, and Patricia Velásquez as Anck-su-namun. Would see an entry in the Dark Universe series, with 2017's The Mummy, with Ahmanet as the titular Mummy.
