Like its predecessors, the game consists of online multiplayer (player versus player and player versus environment) alongside a single-player campaign, both featuring combat based around ink-firing weapons. Other features include Splashtags and customizable lockers.
The Side Order DLC added a single-player campaign focusing on Agent 8, returning from Octo Expansion, as they take on a mysterious tower called the Spire of Order.
