Reflecting her namesake state's history with various indigenous tribes (such as the Sioux and Lakota), South Dakota is a Native American with dark skin, black hair done in at least two braids, and gold-colored eyes (possibly a reference to the presence of gold in the Black Hills region). Her personality is dutiful and protective, vowing to keep the Commander safe from any threats.
Her normal outfit consists of a black top that exposes her breasts to the point that she suffers from an partial nip slip in her official art. In addition, she wears black hot shorts and white thighhighs (possibly even thighhigh boots), the latter of which are styled after Native patterns. She also bears a fair amount of jewelry, such as a partially leather necklace and a featheredhair ornament.
Her rigging consists of her 16"/45 guns as well as a portion of her 5"/38 secondary battery, and also has a shield bearing the state seal of South Dakota.
