The player can recruit Sonya by choosing the fight Deen on the path to Grieth's citadel, with the inverse being true for Deen's recruitment; The player cannot recruit both Deen and Sonya in a single playthrough.
Her original Gaiden design gave Sonya long, red hair with a two-tone cape and a red dress. Her redesign in Echoes retains many of these features, but recolors her hair to purple and changing its style. Her dress also now has a red and black pattern, and her cape is now purple on the inside. Additionally, Sonya possesses a circlet and a pair of diamond-shaped earrings.
