Former Czech industrial conglomerate mostly known today for its surviving automobile manufacturing subsidiary, Škoda Auto, which was established in 1925 after the purchase of Laurin & Klement, headquartered in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. Became state-owned in 1948, and then privatized to Volkswagen from 1991 on. Known primarily for cheap and reliable automobiles.
