A choke hold in which the attacker's arm encircles the opponent's neck from behind. They may hold their other arm for leverage, or apply a hand to the back of the opponent's head for additional pressure.
In professional wrestling, the term "rear naked choke" refers to a grounded version of the sleeper hold with body scissors applied. This variant is used by several wrestlers such as All Elite Wrestling and Ring of Honor wrestler Samoa Joe (calling his RNC as the Coquina Clutch), WWE wrestlers Gunther (as the Gojira Clutch), and Shayna Baszler (as the Kirifuda Clutch). WWE wrestler Karrion Kross does a modified version of the RNC which he calls as the Kross Jacket.
In Judo, the rear naked choke is known as Hadaka-jime, one of the 36 constriction techniques of Kodokan Judo
