A phantom thief is a type of thief that steals for the thrill of the act itself and often to correct a moral wrong, for example, a thief that only steals from the rich, criminals or other thieves.

Notable characteristics include an eye mask, top hat, high collar and a cape or cloak. Kaitou Kid is a prominent example.
