The People's Republic of China flag, the Five Star Red Flag, often called simply the "Chinese flag" is the flag that has de facto represented Mainland China since the end of the Chinese Civil War. The design consists of a group of golden stars on a red background.
Designed, developed and officially introduced in 1949. The red field is officially meant to symbolize revolution, the big yellow star meant the Communist Party, and the four smaller stars meant the workers, peasants, urban petty bourgeoisie, and the national bourgeoisie(now it is mostly expressed as the people of the whole country).
Not to be confused with the Republic of China flag (a.k.a. Taiwanese flag).
