Mickey Mouse & Friends character created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks for Universal Studios in 1927. When Disney and Iwerks left in 1928, Universal would retain Oswald, and Walt would create Mickey Mouse. Oswald's career at Universal would last until 1943, with him making smaller appearances over the coming decades.
In 2006, as part of a trade of minor assets between Disney and NBCUniversal, Disney acquired Oswald and the original shorts Walt and Ub worked on. He would redebut as a Disney character with 2010's Epic Mickey.
