Edit
Nanzen-ji is a Zen Buddhist temple located in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto.
The temple complex includes several notable structures: the massive Sanmon gate; the Hojo (abbot's quarters) featuring painted sliding doors and rock gardens; and several sub-temples scattered throughout the grounds.
Nanzen-ji sits at the base of Kyoto's Higashiyama mountains and marks the southern end of the Philosopher's Walk. The temple grounds also contain the Meiji-era brick aqueduct that runs through the property.
