While he was still young, Luke lost his father Robert after the latter sacrifice himself in protecting civilians from terrorist attack. Inspired by his father's deeds, Luke joined the United States Army under Guile's supervision. Feeling that military life is not fit for him, Luke resigned from the army and began his career as an PMC contractor and later an MMA coach.
A brash, hot-blooded, yet righteous character. Luke was designed to appeal the "new generation" of players by depicting him enjoying various hobby and modern culture, including playing video games. He is also depicted as a rival to the fellow hot-blooded fighter Jamie Siu since their childhood.
Luke's initial reception by fans were mixed-to-negative, as he was set up by Capcom to succeed Ryu as part the new leading cast of the franchise, though his popularity gradually improves, partly due to his English voice actor, Aleks Le, who has done various meme and shitposting video about him using his Luke character and often interact with the fanbase in various Luke-related tweets.
