A light novel series written by Sanda Makoto and illustrated by Sakamoto Mineji. Part of the Fate franchise.
This spin-off of the Fate series is set between the events of Fate/Zero and Fate/stay night. It features the adventures of Lord El-Melloi II — a 30-something Waver Velvet, now a lecturer at the Magus Association — as he and his 15-year-old assistant/apprentice Gray investigate mysteries in the world of Thaumaturgy.
The novels are narrated in a style similar to Sherlock Holmes detective novels where Gray, much like Watson, serves as the main point-of-view character as she, a neophyte to the affairs of magi, steps into their dangerous society.
A manga adaptation debuted in Young Ace magazine in 2017, and an anime adaptation aired in 2019.
