The Iron Cross (Eiserne Kreuz) is a Germanmilitary symbol and medal, consisting of a black cross pattée with a white outline. It has been used by Kingdom of Prussia, the German Empire (1871-1918), Nazi Germany (1933-1945), and by the Bundeswehr (the modern German armed forces) since 1956.
Some video games, such as World War II-themed shooters, Kantai Collection, and Azur Lane, use Iron Crosses to as a substitute for the swastika in order to comply with censorship laws and avoid offending their audience with Nazi symbols.
